In my opinion, Devops, Cloud computing, AI, Data science are too high level names to answer your question. Even if you are part of AI Team, your paycheck and opportunites depends on what skills you have to offer to the company. It might be that of an application developer, Infrastructure specialist (Cloud/On-Prem) , security expert , QA, etc.

Your skillsets determine job role you would get in the company and job role determines paycheck. Regarding opportunities, rely on your skillsets only. NEVER SURRENDER YOUR CAREER TO THE COMPANY. AND ALWAYS BE OPEN TO WORK FOR SKILLSETS YOU POSSESS, NOT JUST FOR RESPONSIBILITIES GIVEN TO YOU.

Let me now come to real industry picture. Software development is now mostly "Game of annotations" . Soon, Lot of development work will happen using GenAI plugins and Low-code no code platforms.

Infrastructure Architect is a job role silently booming (not much talked about in the industry) . Every company ,that today is adopting Cloud, AI, Data science is definitely going to face Cloud Billing problems , as data fuelled to AI Grows and cost of in-transit data and data on rest spikes your cloud costs.

Plus security is always at the forefront of cloud and AI. As more possibilities open up, companies would expect better infra and platform architectures to make their cloud and AI offerings cost-effective.

Thats one area, where there are going to be lot of problems to be solved and under higher management Radar. More problems = more opportunities = more renumeration.

If you are really good at what you do, no one can stop you getting the good salary and opportunities.

Also, if we consider from the future perspective, all the areas have their own significance in their own ways. No company or product can run without having web interface, devops dependency, cloud technologies and data driven insights. These all will be there in one or the other form.

What's more important is to think about your interest areas rather than just about the paychecks, sometimes people do not get the required kick in one domain or the other. So, it is important to think about the domain you are more aligning with then you should seek the right mentorship or the knowledge to work in that area and crack the right and big opportunity.

Also, one factor you can consider is the share of the pool of people in all these areas, lesser the share of people available, might be easier to get such opportunity easily and vice-versa.

Following will be my order of preference.

1. Cloud Computing : As a software engineer int Cloud Computing domain or Infrastructure engineering, is a great field with highest pay. You will be expected to build and code the different infra, databases, services etc. However if you are referring Cloud Architect or Cloud Support Engineers, not much exciting and promising.
2. Web development : More opportunities. Pay is moderate.
3. Devops : Moderate opportunities. Moderate pay. Most of the Devops work will get automated eventually in future hence this is least preferred.

For now , Devops , data science and in the future , AI will be the most promising fields. while you will get jobs in all these sectors , its best to not select your niche based on only money criteria. Hop to Linkedin , browse people who are already working in these domains and network with them, understand the study involved , the lifestyles , work pressures and then decide where you want to invest your future.

All three fields - AI, web development/devops/cloud computing, and data science - offer good opportunities and paychecks. But if you're looking for the most promising field for the future, data science stands out. With the increasing amount of data being generated, there's a growing demand for professionals who can analyze and derive insights from it. Plus, data science skills are versatile and applicable across various industries like AI. So, if you're interested in both future prospects and good pay, consider diving into data science.

I would suggest you develop skills related to OpenAI service of Microsoft which falls under generative AI which is the current hot topic in tech world. Along with OpenAI also work to develop skills to code a co-pilot. Any job in data and AI world comes with requirement to know a few data related technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Datalake etc. Work on these things and you will be able to land a job easily.
